forestfly_original_detolf The Original Ikea Detolf

The original Ikea detolf only has 4 layers when I first bought and due to my expanding of my 1:12 scale motorbikes collection, the lack of space in the detolf is really frustrating. I did some research on the internet and come across a site which has a solution to expand the layers. Here's what you need:
14 wire rope clips
(1.5mm/1.6mm)
4 pieces of custom made glass

(exactly the same measurement with the existing ones)

14 rubber stoppers

(To prevent the glasses from slipping away on the wire rope clips)
Wire Rope Clip Setup

Measure the height you want on the detolf's metal rod and use a marker to mark down. Secure the wire rope clips onto the metal rod (Do not tighten it too tightly because you will cause the wire rope clip to break into two pieces). Place the rubber stoppers about 45 degrees on top of the wire rope clip each time you have secured it.

Once you have completed the above steps, place the bubble level on the glass surface to check if it's balance. You might get one or two glasses which is slanted, find out which of the wire rope clips are not in position, repeat the step above until you get everything balance up.
Final Touchup On Modified Detolf

Next thing, you might want to clean up the glasses before slotting everything into the detolf. Thereafter, you are done! However the custom rope clips might not be able to support too heavy figuring/diecast, but for sure twelve 1:12 scale diecast motorcycles on a single layer is not a problem since I'm using it till now. Some of them have suggest to use acrylics instead of the custom made glasses. Acrylics are lighter and cheaper. Well, it depends on how you want your end product to be.

I realise that the halogen lighting when I first bought from Ikea was not as good. It generates heat and I'm afraid my motorbikes diecast lacquering might damage in no time. So I went back to Ikea and bought the multi-colour LEDs which cost me another 70 bucks and it turns out well!

Any questions regarding the detolf setup, you can message me here and I will answer as much as I can. Thanks and have a great day =)
